GeocosmologyThe key to everything – all creation, evolution, existence and illumination – is what the Western wisdom tradition calls ‘The Mystical Marriage’. It refers to the love affair and union of opposites, and comprises the fundamental teaching and revelation of the Middle Eastern/European wisdom traditions, otherwise known collectively as the Western Wisdom Tradition. Its corresponding term in the Vedic tradition of the East would be ‘Yoga’, referring to the union of the individual with the universal, the natural with the spiritual, the human with the divine. It embraces in its meaning what is called ‘the Marriage of Heaven and Earth’, poetically described in the famous Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus as well as in some of the Shake-speare sonnets. The term ‘Geocosmology’ refers to this marriage of heaven and earth with particular respect to our planet. Geocosmology can be defined as the science of geomancy and cosmology and their interrelationship or interface. Geomancy means ‘earth divination’ and is, fundamentally, a sensitive, rational and intuitively-based science of earth energy, form and consciousness. Cosmology, the complement to geomancy, is a science of wisdom and metaphysical truths, including that of the stars, the heavens and the spiritual archetypes or angels of the universe. It is a science of spiritual energy, form and consciousness. Geomancy and cosmology are, respectively, the intuitively-based sciences of earth and heaven. They complement each other and go together like twins or lovers. The higher lies behind and is revealed in the lower, and the lower gives the clues to and knowledge of the higher. They each affect each other and can be married together to produce a state of paradise. The ‘face’ or interface of the two is where the marriage takes place, and the chief assisting agent (and beneficiary) in this marriage is the human being. In our world this ‘face’ is symbolised by the planetary landscape, the interface between the atmosphere and space beyond (i.e. ‘heaven/above’) and the more solid and watery earth (i.e. ‘earth/below’). Because of the universal law of correspondence enshrined within the law of Mystical Marriage, whatever takes place in the lesser sphere has the power to affect the greater sphere, and visa versa. Therefore whatever takes place in the planetary landscape has the power to affect to some extent the interface of the body of the planet with its psyche, and the interface of the whole planetary being (i.e. body plus psyche) with its spiritual counterpart and the universe as a whole. In the heaven-earth polarity of which each human person is comprised, the heavenly aspect is the human mind or psyche whilst the earthly aspect is the human body, particularly the heart, brain, nervous and meridian systems. For our planet the heavenly aspect is the planetary mind whilst the earthly aspect is the planetary body with its network of earth energies. If the landscape is kept healthy, with its energy systems in good balance and harmony, then it helps us human beings to maintain good health and generate harmonious, positive thoughts. The landscape is our planetary home. Just as geomancy or feng shui can harmonise the energies of a house or office, thereby affecting its occupants positively and helpfully in all aspects of their lives, so geocosmology can harmonise the landscape of the world. This was a science known to many initiates and leaders of humanity down the ages, and whole civilisations were developed with geocosmological knowledge of their landscapes. In Britain this knowledge can be traced back to the Celts and pre-Celts, and succeeding cultures carried on using or developing this knowledge to varying degrees, such as the Romans, the Normans, the Tudors, the Rosicrucians, the Freemasons and the Christian Church. It is not a knowledge confined to Britain, of course, and can be found all over the world. Seemingly lost for a period of time, in recent years there has been a renaissance of this knowledge, with fresh insights and a growing practice of working with the earth energies and spiritual archetypes to help create a finer and more harmonious environment in which we might live. Ultimately such practice should be able to create what some refer to as the light body of the earth, just as we could create our own light bodies, our immortal forms or bodies of ascension, if we followed the right practices. It is this state of light and enlightenment that is known as ‘Paradise’. The key to this is, as said at the beginning, the Mystical Marriage of lover and beloved, of heaven and earth, of mind and body, of spirit and matter: and the key to this is love. © Peter Dawkins, 2006
